RE: Construction at Topsail Hill FL

We also just returned from Topsail. The new tent sites are under construction. They are being built behind the volunteer sites. No probs with construction, they weren't working on it a whole lot while we were there. We used the same entrance we've always used. Didn't go over to the day use area. I did see a new road going toward the day use but it was roped off. Topsail was wonderful as usual, The waves were awesome Thursday and Friday with the hurricane. The water was almost up to the dunes on Thursday.

RE: Topsail - Site May Be Available Sept 13 - 20th

Too bad you can't come, we are at Topsail now. The weather has been beautiful. Some worries about Ike, but so far just some big waves today. Otherwise, beautiful. I'm glad we didn't cancel our week like we started to. When we came, we had Hanna, Ike, and Josephine lined up.

RE: It's hard to keep vigil at the hospital

The hardest thing I have ever done in my life was the 6 weeks my Dad was in ICU before he passed. I am a nurse, but when it is your loved one, all that goes out the window. It is so hard to have to sit and watch, and not being able to do one thing to change the way things will turn out. On the technical side, I knew what was happening. However, on the daughter side, I just wanted my Dad to get better. Sometimes, during those long days and nights, you just have to get away for awhile. I would go to the park and eat lunch or dinner. It helped just to get out of the hospital for awhile. I was still trying to work some too, it helps if you have a understanding boss as I did. Somedays I would only be able to work 2-3 hours and get called back to the hospital. You just have to kind of put your brain and body on hold, and do what has to be done. It will all be kind of a blur when you look back on it, but your Mom knows you're there, and I'm sure she appreciates it. It is so hard to see them suffering. Hang in there, and don't be afraid to ask for help. My poor husband did the brunt of house and child care while my Dad was sick, and during that time was when I realized how special he was. I know how you are feeling and my prayers will be with you and your Mom. Hope she gets better.

RE: ? about new puppy

We are new puppy owners also. My son has a new 8 week old golden-his name is Copper. He weighs 20 lbs. already. We have only had him 2 days, but we have already gotten really attached to him. We have just been keeping his bowl full, and he seems to be eating what he wants.

RE: cancer

Lost my Dad in Oct. 2004 from lung cancer, Grandmother died in Jan. 2005 from colon Ca. My MIL was diagnosed with breast CA 5 years ago. She has been on chemo pretty much since then, and is doing well right now. Surgery wasn't indicated since it was stage 4 when they found it. We are very lucky to still have her.

RE: Gatlinburg - Fall Leaves

This drive is one of the best kept secrets around. Shhh! You just told our secret! We always go up the Cherohala in Oct. Not crowded like the Smokeys. The KOA in Tellico is a great base for this trip.

RE: Gatlinburg - Fall Leaves

We have been having leaves falling like rain this week. If we don't get some much needed rain, we won't be having a pretty Fall. Usually, the 3rd week of October is the best for colors in TN.

RE: Henderson Beach & Topsail Hill State Parks

We love both Henderson and Topsail. IMO, there are no really bad sites in either. At Henderson, we have stayed in two great sites, 34 and 52. 34 is a very long pull-thru, as is 52. My favorite of the 2 was 52-very private. At Topsail, my favorites are 127 and 144. Both these sites have no neighbors on one side. Can you tell I like private sites? I have pics of both cgs in my pictures.

RE: Something sneaky on Reserve America

O.K., so that is why I have been getting Outdoor Life and Field & Stream! I'll have to be more careful when I make reservations. In fact, I'll sure start looking for stuff like this everytime I order something or make reservations online. BTW, anyone getting Backpacker? Don't know where that one came from either.

RE: Topsail Hill in April

Make those reservations now. Sites in the 100's are great. Our favorites are 127 and 144, just because you have no neighbors. However, we are staying in 78 this Fall, we like it too.

RE: Fall Creek Falls St. Park, TN

I know it might be hard to see your son go, but we thank him for his service. Yes, it has been very hard to think of him going to Iraq or Afghanistan, but I am very proud of him. Thanks! Cindy, I know exactly how you feel, our daughter is navy and leaving the 20th for spain for 2-4 years..hard to accept, but you are not alone, we are here for you! Wow! 2-4 years. I truly thank your daughter for her service to our Country. Seth is not at the deployment stage yet. He has been at Ft.Benning in training for 7 months. One good thing about training, he is not deployed. I told him to take all the training he could get. Thanks, I may be sending you a PM when the going gets tough. River Plantation is nice, isn't it?

RE: Grayton or Topsail Beaches

Grayton in no way compares to Topsail. Topsail is in a totally different league. Yes, Grayton is just down the road, but Topsail just outranks Grayton on every angle. At Topsail, you have beautiful manicured sites, Grayton has sand and dust. The only thing similar between the two might be the beach. I would choose Topsail, hands down.

Fall Creek Falls St. Park, TN

Another big kudos to this cg. We just came back from a wonderful weekend at this park. This was the first time we have been camping this season. Sorta hard to believe, we usually have been out several times by now. With our son joining the Army and several other things, we just haven't been camping this year. I needed this getaway so bad. Alot has been going on at Fall Creek. Lots of remodeling and sprucing up of the sites. If you want a great getaway, try it. We were also able to get my favorite site-218.

RE: Ft. De Soto with 3 slides and dog

Hi, we stayed in site 205, and site 186. Our 5'er is 35ft. with 2 slides. They would have been plenty big enough for 3 slides. Beautiful cg. Like the above posters said, watch your top, and some sites are tricky to back into. I have some pics of Ft.Desoto in my pictures. Can't wait to go back. OOPS, on edit, just saw you have a dog and was asking about area 2 not 3.

I was going to suggest Tellico, but then saw you were from TN too.
